Dear Friends,

We all know that Bannerghatta National Park(BNP) is one of the Natural treasure houses that Bangalore has in its backyard. BNP is very essential for the sustenance of a city like Bangalore itself. Apart from that, BNP is one of the last remaining shrub forests in Asia that houses large mammals like Asiatic elephants to wide varieties of reptiles, Amphibians and Avian fauna. It is also termed as eastern fringe of the western ghats since its all the way connected to Western Ghat. Also BNP is home to varieties of Flora.

Sadly today much of this is unknown to public. Even the younger generation in the villages around BNP are ignorant of the wilderness so near to them and its importance in their lives. Added to these illegal activities like poaching, snaring etc are dwindling the population of small mammals in the park.

Hence, RamaKrishna Mission Shivanahalli along with the Karnataka Forest Department proposes to bring all interested individuals and organizations to a common platform for the conservation and preservation of nature and wildlife of Bannerghatta National Park for the future progeny.

Volunteers interested in spreading conservation awareness of BNP are requested to attend the Volunteer induction meeting planned on January 18th(Sunday), 2014 (10.30Am to 3.30Pm) at RK Mission campus in Shivanahalli.

The whole initiative is 'Cause Centric' and is named as "Conserve And Preserve BNP". The idea of the mission is to make conservation a movement. Below are the various activities going to be discussed in the induction meeting

1. Conservation awareness programs in the education institutions around BNP.
2. Conservation awareness programs in Corporates
3. Anti fire depredation

Those interested in attending the induction can call Mr. Sreeram - 9980218242, Mr.Ashwath 9740919832

Thanks

How To Reach R. K. Mission?

Car Pooling (Please ensure pooling because it is all about conserving energy) .
Ideally it would be wise to go with Car pooling. In case car pooling is not possible one can use BMTC services.

  1. Take the Bannerghatta Road from the Bangalore City.
  2. Cross the Bannerghatta National Park – the road curves to the left at that place near the Bannerghatta Police Station.
  3. Proceed further towards Jigani Industrial township. Halfway, on the right handside you will see the Ramakrishna Mission, Shivanahalli hoarding. (You will also notice a Swamy Ayyappa temple hoarding).
  4. Take a right turn there and drive for about 10 kms. Do not take any side roads (rare and few) that you will come along.
  5. Travelling through the Bannerghatta National Park reserved forest, you will have to cross the Ragihalli village to come over to Shivanahalli.
